Biography
Canadian Artist
PETER KASZONYI
1933 - 1993
Peter Kaszonyi was a well known Canadian born Artist with an arousing widespread interest and excitement for his unusual use of oil colours.
His warmly human perception, coupled with a natural vivacity and artistic perfection, results in the strikingly life like quality of his work.
Mr. Kaszonyi, who was born in Abbotsford, British Columbia, he started painting at the age of 12. His interest in mountain scenery was a result of much travelling through the Rocky Mountains with his father, who was a section man on the Canadian National Railway. As a young boy, Perter Kaszonyi grew to love the ever changing scenes, he was continually sketching and painting them.
Entirely self-taught, Peter would use what ever materials were on hand; in the early 1940's, during World War II, materials were scarce. The young artist did mostly pencil sketching and water colors. Mr Kaszonyi recalled that his first attempt at oil painting was done with house paint. He painted on anything he could find, this included scraps of plywood, backs of poster card and even times he would paint on window blinds.
During the flood in 1948 the Kaszonyi family was living in Matsqui flats. All of Mr. Kaszonyi's paintings were lost. Young Peter was not discouraged, he continued painting with more passion then ever.
Peter would put on one man art shows throughout Western Canada, his reception in every city was met with an overwhelming success. His work included everything from abstract to portraits and of course his love for beautiful sceneries.
Peter's paintings are in many private collections in Canada, Europe, and all over the United States.
